Nothing is more enchanting than dinosaurs and dragons. Children spend endless hours creating, coloring, and cutting these fun creatures. While kids spend countless hours on paper fun, making a real, stuffed dinosaur will provide even more fun, and will provide a type of real time learning that advances their skills and knowledge.

They are a fun craft for kids, but are also an excellent way for kids to learn body and clothing parts, counting, or tying shoes. They can also be used to decorate rooms, or sit on bedroom shelves. Dinosaurs used for learning are often accompanied with doll clothing, shoes, with fingers and toes. Parents and children will have hours of learning fun, and kids will soon be a pace above the rest with this fun learning tool.

This toy is extremely easy to make. Following a few easy steps will provide families with fun entertainment for months to come. To start, just find a pattern from the Internet, craft shop, or book. Visualize how big or small the toy will be, and adjust the pattern accordingly. This can be done very easily with a copy machine by adjusting the size.

Think about the materials available and colors. Choose a plain or multicolored soft fabric. When ready, place the template on material and begin cutting pieces of material in the same size pieces as the pattern. Make sure to go by the pattern and cut a front and back side using fabric scissors. Once cut, turn fabric to wrong side, and pin by edges.

Begin sewing the pieces together by hand or by a sewing machine. Leave 1/4 of an inch on edges. Sew carefully around all curves, and make sure to leave 2 inches open for turning the material, and stuffing. After the material is sewn, turn material inside out by the two inch space. Using a crochet hook or some other utensil may be necessary to push all material out.

The next step is to stuff the material. To do this use poly fill. Don't try to fill the material all at once. Use small amounts and gradually stuff. Use the pencil or other utensil to make sure all pockets of the material are filled. Don't pack it full, leave a small amount of moving room so the arms and legs of the dinosaur can be moved by the child.

Once filled, sew the two inch opening shut by hand. Cut any remaining thread and begin making the facial and body features. To do this use markers, felt material cut outs, cartoon eyes, noses, mouths, or sew these features on the doll. For those that plan on sewing it might be best to do this before sewing pieces together. Sequins and beads can also be attached for a special, and unique toy.

Those that are really creative can make the doll clothes, or they can purchased at department stores. Accessories should include shirts, pants, and shoes. They should have buttons, zippers, and ties. The stuffed dinosaur can now be used for learning clothing, body parts, counting and tying.
