There are few things that better serve as a catalyst for romance than a great trip to Maui. This Hawaiian island is one of the most romantic spots on earth, and there are plenty of great options if your goal is treating her to a romantic adventure. Here are some suggestions that will help you plan an itinerary of romance for that special lady in your life.

Sometimes a simple gesture goes a long way. Imagine her surprise if she finds that you have arranged to take a picnic basket and blanket to an especially romantic beach for a sunset picnic. Fill up the basket with a great bottle of wine and some fresh fruit, cheese and some sweet treats. Then just relax and enjoy the soothing sounds of the sea as you watch the sun move below the horizon. Maui has no shortage of great sunset spots, a few to consider might be Napili Bay, Kaanapali Beach or Launipoko Beach Park.

On the flip side, pack a backpack with some breakfast items such as banana bread and a thermos of Hawaiian coffee and take an early morning trek up to the peak of Halekala. Drive up to the visitors' center, which is already at 9,740 feet above sea level and walk the rest of the way to catch the sunrise. If the day is clear, not only will you enjoy the sunrise but also a view that includes vistas of several other islands, including Molokai, the Big Island and Lanai. After that, stick around and explore the world's largest dormant volcano.

Maui has no shortage of amazing restaurants and everyone has their favorite. Many boast spectacular views and romantic dcor, so it's not a problem finding a cool place to eat every night. For an extra special treat, consider noshing at a special place such as Son'z at Swan Court, which is so named because the restaurant rests beside a lagoon where swans delicately cruise along the water. The view also includes palm trees, lush vegetation and a waterfall. Humuhumunukunukuapua'a is the name of Hawaii's state fish as well as an amazing restaurant located at the Grand Wailea. The sunset views and gourmet cuisine definitely work in tandem to create the perfect meal. Another favorite is Mama's Fish House, which is the perfect end to a day spent exploring the road that leads to Hana.

The ocean, of course, is a huge reason why people come to the islands, and you can certainly spend some time out in the water. Take a whale-watching trip and you are sure to see humpback whales. A sunset cocktail or dinner cruise is another fun idea to consider. Helicopter tours also can be a great way for a couple to get a unique view of Maui. Sunbathing and playing in the waves also can be a great way for a couple to enjoy their time. You also could consider snorkeling, scuba diving or taking surfing lessons.
